The fears of manned space travel advocates were realized when the Obama administration proposed its 2011 NASA budget a few months ago. The $19 billion plan called for an end to both the 30-year-old space shuttle program and funding for the deep space Constellation rocket program. But as we explain in a recent article, the fight for government-funded manned space exploration isn't dead just yet. Whatever the outcome, NASA funding continues to hover well below 1 percent of annual federal spending. The below infographic provides historical context for the state of NASA’s budgets.
