Jason Fichtner, PhD
Jason J. Fichtner, PhD, is a Senior Fellow and Head of the Retirement Income Institute, a scholarly research and thought-leadership program of the Alliance for Lifetime Income (ALI), where he manages the research, strategy and operations of the Institute. He is widely recognized as a leading researcher and expert on Social Security, federal tax and budget policy, and retirement security.
Fichtner is also vice president and chief economist at the Bipartisan Policy Center, a Research Fellow with the Center for Financial Security at the University of Wisconsin, and on the Board of Directors for the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI), and a Member of the Puerto Rico Pension Reserve Trust.
Fichtner also served in several positions at the Social Security Administration, including as Deputy Commissioner of Social Security (acting), Chief Economist and Associate Commissioner for Retirement Policy. He also served as a senior economist with the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress and as an economist with the Internal Revenue Service.
He earned a BA from the University of Michigan, an MPP from Georgetown University and a PhD in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech.
