Sharon Collins Casey is a lawyer and Chair of the Board of The Washington Home, a private charitable foundation that supports elderly and terminally ill residents of Washington, D.C. One of the oldest charitable organizations in the U.S., The Washington Home was founded in 1888 as The Washington Home for Incurables providing end-of-life care. After many decades evolving into a provider of long-term care, dementia care and rehabilitation services in addition to hospice care, The Washington Home transitioned to foundation status with the goal of serving many more people through grant-making to numerous organizations. To carry on its legacy and continuing mission, the foundation’s initial grant was to establish an inpatient hospice center in Washington, D.C., that is operated by Capital Caring Health.
